We arrived in New York on September 12th at 6 a.m... sleepy and grumpy from the long flight... or maybe that's just how the city's atmosphere started affecting us, since people there aren't nearly as nice and polite as in Cody. We were supposed to spend 2 days in New York, as our ticket was for September 14th. Back then, I didn't realize that 2 days is a terribly short amount of time for such a huge city... especially for those who don't know their way around at all... and especially for girls. I had tons of plans... I had written down the addresses of places, parks, and shops we absolutely had to visit. And the fact that they were all very far from each other didn't bother me at all... it's fine, we walked everywhere in Cody, we'll walk here too! (I somehow didn't account for the difference in size between these two cities). Our first priority was to get rid of our luggage, meaning leave it in a safe place. We had no idea where to stay in New York and were afraid to admit to each other that the only inexpensive hotel in Manhattan was the one where we spent the night when we first arrived in New York... we didn't really want to go back there, but we didn't have much of a choice. We decided to leave our luggage in storage at the airport. Then we had to figure out how to get to Upper Manhattan, where that hotel was located... we decided it would be calmer to book the room right away... although it's unlikely they have many guests, but still... After asking a police officer on the street how it would be easier and cheaper to get to Manhattan, he said that first we needed to take the so-called AirTrain and ride it to Jamaica Station. There, we had to go downstairs and take the subway. In principle, it's not that difficult, but for someone who has never been to New York and didn't even have a clue how everything works there, it was just incredibly hard. The AirTrain, which shuttles people around the airport, is free (you can ride it all day). But to get on the subway, you need to buy a special 'MetroCard', which is sold in almost all city shops... well, we bought it right there in the subway. It's also better to buy a subway map right away, as it's very easy to get lost. Personally, in two days we never figured out how the subway works... we were only saved by the fact that we asked people if we were even going in the right direction) In general, after somehow getting to Manhattan and stepping out into the fresh air from that terrible subway, we started trying to remember where that 'wonderful' hotel was. The only thing we remembered was that it was somewhere near Port Authority. After wandering around, we found that very hotel, paid them 60 bucks, got the keys to our coveted room, and went to check it out. This room turned out to be even worse than the previous one!) After leaving some things, we set off to explore New York. Definitely buy a proper large city map; you will definitely need it. Actually, if you figure it out well, everything is arranged very simply. Streets run from west to east, and avenues from south to north. In general, if you walk straight along the same street, you will cross various avenues, and vice versa, if you walk straight along an avenue, you will pass through streets. I don't know about others, but I liked walking along 42nd and 34th Streets the most; that's where most of the cool shops, subways, etc., are located. And, of course, Broadway... it's something else! Although it runs diagonally, and you can easily turn onto another avenue by mistake. In general, all these 2 days we didn't just walk, we ran around New York... by the end of the day, we could barely move our legs, as they were completely covered in blisters. Periodically, we just got lost and didn't even know where we were going. We didn't even have time to eat properly because I didn't want to waste time on such 'trifles') In general, if you want to have a good time in New York, and not just run through it, stay there for at least 3 days!) That's my advice to you!
