Meanwhile, the second month of our hotel rental was coming to an end. Everyone had left, but I needed to stay in Miami for another 10 days before my planned trip. I thought about it and decided to take a risk – I still had copies of the room key, meaning I could come and go at any time, as long as I didn't get caught. That's what I did: I left all my main belongings with friends for safekeeping, packed a backpack, and for 5 days in a row, I would arrive at 11 PM, sleep, and leave at 7 AM for work.
But then the last workday arrived. Just like before, I came in at 11 PM, relaxed, and drifted off into dreamland. This time, I decided to treat myself and sleep until 8 AM. This little whim turned out to be a big mistake...
At 7:58 AM, I woke up to the sound of a key slowly turning in the lock. The door opened, a security guard walked in, and saw me. I don't know who was more shocked at that moment)) We stared at each other with wide eyes for about 5 seconds, after which I grabbed my bag, nearly knocked the guard off his feet, and ran out of the room saying, “Sorry, I gotta go.” The guard quickly recovered, grabbed his phone, and shouted, “I’ll call the police!!!” And he actually did, but by that time I was already far away, only seeing a police car parked near the hotel.
A thousand thoughts raced through my head: “Okay, what do I do? Can they find me? If I get caught, it won't be pretty; this is breaking and entering with illegal residency. Okay, I need to calm down. The hotel room isn't registered in my name, there are no cameras, and I doubt the guard remembered my face. Phew, so there's a chance they'll forget about me. The main thing now is to stay away from that area.”
First thing, I went to a barbershop, which I had been planning to do for a while anyway. I got a haircut, then had lunch at McDonald's, washed up there, and started thinking about what to do next. I still had 5 days left, and I really didn't want to rent a place. I'll tell you what came to my mind in the next chapter=)
