So, yeah =) Did everyone get my point? I decided for myself that I want to find a job in a typical American restaurant. Preferably an independent one, not a chain. Not fast food or a bistro... Basically, a restaurant like a seafood place, a grill, a steakhouse, or something similar. At first, I only used Google Earth. I would just spin the globe, poke at states, zoom in, and stop somewhere... Let's say somewhere in Alabama. I would read my spreadsheet to see what's in Alabama, what cities... zoom in on specific cities. I'd type "restaurants" into the search bar, and smart Google would find me all the restaurants in that area. I'd click on them. Some have websites, others don't. I was only interested in the ones that had a website.
Let's look. Menu, pictures... basically, we look at whatever is there. Next. If I saw a "Job", "employment", or "join our team" section - 99% of the time, that's NOT for me. In most cases, they ask you to fill out an application. A terrible thing. It's a huge waste of time (some applications are 2-3 pages long) and a bunch of fields that I don't know how to fill out. For example: in all of them (99.9%), there is an Education block. Their education system is different from ours (I think that's no secret). There are fields: school, middle school, high school, college, university, professional development courses, etc. I don't know how to fill out all these fields. And if they are interested, they will find out and see everything themselves. But the fact is, I spent about an hour a couple of times filling out such a form for some pizzeria... and decided that never ever will I do that again. Naturally, no one from that pizzeria replied to me =) Russian students are very rarely replied to regarding applications because a lot of things don't align with their standards of normalcy.
What was I looking for on the site if not "Jobs"? I was looking for "Contact Us!" - that's just super. On some sites, the contact page already has input fields for "name", "email", "subject", and "message". On others, an email is provided (usually info@restaurant.com).
