The next day, we went and bought another suitcase at a thrift store because we had accumulated more stuff and needed somewhere to put it. We also went and returned the GPS without any issues. We bought some clothes, said goodbye to everyone, and in the evening, we headed to Virginia Beach, where we had a bus to New York.
We sold our car to Alex, who kindly agreed to buy it for $600. We decided to spend another day walking around New York since it was my brother's first time there. We arrived there on a chinabus from Virginia Beach for $35. We wanted to find a place to leave our bags for the day and go explore. It turned out that wasn't so easy to do in New York, unless you go to the airports, which is far and inconvenient. Then I started searching online for options and found a place in Manhattan where you could store luggage for $8-10 per suitcase per day. In my opinion, it was a great solution. Here is the address:
SCHWARTZ TRAVEL SERVICES (212) 290-2626 357 West 36 Street New York, NY 10001
We took a taxi there because we had a lot of bags. And that's when something happened to me that would deserve a separate page on the blog, but since I've already written quite a lot, I won't do that. So, in that taxi, I lost my wallet, which had about a thousand dollars in it. Of course, I didn't hope to ever get it back; after all, it happened in New York. I spent the whole day walking around in a bad mood, and in the evening, we took a bus to Boston, from where we were supposed to fly home.
By the way, the best way to travel from New York to Boston is by the Chinese Fung Wah Bus. The departure point is Chinatown, and buses run every half hour. The price is only $15. Tickets can be bought either on the website: http://www.fungwahbus.com/ or at the departure point. We arrived in Boston late and had to spend the night at the airport. Early in the morning, after dropping off our luggage at the storage locker at the Train Station (very easy to get to from the airport), we went to see the city.
When we were walking around the city, a miracle happened, and a man called me who had found my wallet in the taxi and agreed to return all the money and documents, but on the condition that I come to New York that very day and pick it up from him personally. I had no choice, so while my brother was walking around Boston, I made a Boston – New York – Boston trip by plane.
Then I met up with my brother, and we successfully checked in for our flight.
Actually, a funny story happened to us at the airport. Before selling the car, we removed 2 airbags from it with the intention of selling them back home. We put them in a suitcase and forgot about them. 10 minutes after we checked our luggage, my brother and I were paged over the entire Boston airport to report to Security. We went, of course, because we were curious why there was such increased attention on us. As the officer explained to us, airbags cannot be transported in checked luggage because they can deploy on the plane. I told him to just throw them away and leave us alone. So guys, don't take car airbags with you, because they will be confiscated at the airport. And we flew home.
That's it... The end... See you in 2011...
In this blog, A LOT of interesting moments were omitted, otherwise, if I had started writing all of it, no one would have had the time to read it. But I will write EVERYTHING eventually. I promise)
Thanks to my brother and Sabina, who helped me translate this text into Russian.
Thanks to everyone who made our life more interesting in the USA (a separate page of this blog is dedicated to you).
See you soon...
