Choosing Where to Work

Your choice of work location depends primarily on the program option. If you participate under Full Service, you first indicate your preferences for region and type of work, after which you can consider available vacancies in the sponsor's system. A specific state, city, employer, or position is not guaranteed. When considering a specific vacancy, it is useful to take several factors into account: 1. Working conditions. Pay attention to the position, number of hours, hourly rate, work dates, and employer requirements. 2. Housing. Check the cost of housing, distance to work, deposit, and what is included in the rent. 3. Transportation. Public transportation may be limited in smaller resort towns, so find out in advance how participants get to work. 4. Region and climate. Different regions of the United States vary significantly in climate, nature, and lifestyle. 5. Cost of living. A higher hourly rate does not always mean higher final earnings: housing, transportation, and other expenses also vary. If you participate under Self-Arranged, you have much more freedom in choosing an employer and location, but any job must still comply with program rules and be approved by the sponsor. With Full Service, we recommend not limiting yourself to one specific city or type of work: a broader range of preferences increases the number of available options.
