Unfortunately I couldn't write every day and post photos during my stay in New York because I didn't have the time and lacked a constant Internet connection. I returned home on October 4 and only now am ready to gather my thoughts and write about how things were in New York and on the way home in general.
So, we arrived in New York after three months of backbreaking work on September 26, 2010.
As always, the city amazed me with its scale, buildings, people, streets and atmosphere. Walking the streets of New York is an incomparable feeling. Here you can feel the subtle edges of chic, money and beauty together with poverty, undocumented immigrants and gangster neighborhoods. It's a unique city that never stops surprising you at every turn. At times it felt like it was impossible to stop being amazed here.
We stayed at the Greenpoint YMCA hostel, which is located in a Polish neighborhood in Brooklyn. The area is interesting in that in one direction it's all Polish, walk five minutes one way and you'll end up in a Mexican neighborhood, five minutes the other way and it's a predominantly Black neighborhood, and five minutes the other way you'll be in an Indian neighborhood ))) Brooklyn is a good place to sleep — it's pretty quiet at night, and during the day it's not too hectic (depends on the spot), but the most wonderful place in NY is, of course, Manhattan. A huge number of stores, skyscrapers, financial centers, amazing scenery and simply American hustle and bustle.
The hostel turned out to be far from what I had imagined beforehand. For $40 per person per day the room looked, to say the least, not great: walls painted blue, whitewash on the ceiling, two beds, a nightstand, a TV with no antenna, an air conditioner and that's it. In the nightstand you could find anything — from gangster literature to pills of unknown origin. In short, if you plan to spend a lot of time in your room while in NY (which is very stupid), you'll have to pay a lot of money for that.
Besides the large number of stores with cheap and good-quality clothes, you shouldn't forget about the city's sights. Unfortunately, I couldn't visit them all, but I did go to the Empire State Building.
This is an amazing view that I dreamed of seeing since childhood. I fulfilled my dream )))
You can talk about New York for a long time, but it's worth visiting, which I recommend to you. Also my main advice for those going to New York — when buying subway tickets, don't be stingy and get an unlimited weekly pass for just $27. You can check — you'll end up paying more if you buy single rides or a set amount. Proven.
After NY we faced a long but not as torturous-as-the-first-time flight, after which we spent a wonderful day in the company of good guys in Moscow, and then we had the trip home by train, which helped me acclimatize and finally realize that I was going home! ))
That's it, my little trip has come to an end )) I recommend everyone go on this program — Work and Travel!
