Two weeks into living in Sunny Isles, George called with good news: “My son left for Honduras, we can start working.” He promised 8 dollars an hour. By that time, my pasta was running out, and the offer from the Spanish-Japanese guy came just in time.
George worked for a construction company owned by a wealthy lady. My duties involved various tasks, from handing him tools to fixing doors. Once, I even had to hunt a snake by the pool) Besides me, George’s ex-wife and daughter also worked at the company.
During lunch one day, his wife asked: “Tom, you wanna soup?” What, soup? Here, in America? Really??? “Sure, I really wanna it!” I replied. Imagine my disappointment when, instead of soup, I got a cup of instant noodles. Ah, so that’s what you call soup))
Unfortunately or fortunately, I only managed to work for George for a week. On my day off, he called and suggested painting fences in the heat for 5 dollars an hour, which I naturally refused. Apparently, he didn't like that, and from that moment on, our paths never crossed. Still, I got paid for the week of work, which allowed me to pay the rent for my hotel room for another month. We're living the dream=)
