Unfortunately, I couldn't post photos or write every day while in New York due to a lack of time and constant internet access. I returned home on October 4th and am only now ready to gather my thoughts and write about what it was like in New York and on the way home in general.
So, we arrived in New York after three months of hard labor on September 26, 2010. As always, the city amazed me with its scale, buildings, people, streets, and atmosphere. Walking the streets of New York is an incomparable feeling. Here you can feel the fine lines between chic, money, and beauty, alongside poverty, illegal immigrants, and gang-ridden neighborhoods. It is a unique city that never ceases to surprise at every turn. Sometimes, it felt like it was impossible to stop being amazed.
We stayed at the Greenpoint YMCA hostel, which is located in a Polish neighborhood in Brooklyn. The area is very interesting because it's all Poles in the vicinity, but if you walk 5 minutes in one direction, you'll end up in a Mexican neighborhood, five minutes in another - a black neighborhood, and if you walk five minutes in the opposite direction, you'll find yourself in an Indian neighborhood ))) Brooklyn is a good area for sleeping; it's quite quiet at night, and not too hectic during the day (depending on the spot), but the most beautiful place in NYC is, of course, Manhattan. A huge number of shops, skyscrapers, financial centers, amazing landscapes, and simply American hustle and bustle.
The hostel turned out to be far from as good as I had imagined beforehand. For 40 dollars a day per person, the room looked, to put it mildly, not great: blue-painted walls, whitewash on top, two beds, a nightstand, a TV with no antenna, an air conditioner, and that's it. In the nightstand, you could find anything from gang literature to pills of unknown origin. In general, if you are going to spend a lot of time in your room while in NYC (which is very silly), you will have to pay a lot of money for it.
Besides the large number of shops with cheap and high-quality clothes, one should not forget about the sights of this city. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to visit them all, but I was at the Empire State Building.
This is a stunning view that I had dreamed of seeing since childhood. I fulfilled my dream )))
You can talk about New York for a long time, but it's worth visiting, which I advise you to do as well. And my main advice for those going to New York - when buying subway tickets, don't be stingy and purchase a 7-day unlimited pass for just 27 dollars. You can check - it will cost you more if you buy them one by one or for a specific amount. Verified.
After NYC, a long but not as painful flight as the first time awaited us, after which we spent a wonderful day in the company of good guys in Moscow, and then a train ride home awaited us, which helped me acclimatize and finally realize that I was going home! ))
That's it, my little journey has ended )) I advise everyone to go on this program - Work and Travel!
