Fair
Day one: demolition derby. Day two: concert. Day three: rodeo.
Every day of the fair opened with the anthem, during which everyone stands, of course. The first time, I sat and didn't want to get up (America is America, but I love my Motherland, and it's not my country anyway), then Connie, one of my employers, politely asked: you don't have to sing or put your hand on your heart, but at least stand up.
Cars
The first event was old cars messing around in the mud. Have you ever ridden bumper cars at an amusement park? It's the same thing here. Only the winner is the one who remains last and pushes the others off the field or makes them inoperable. A tow truck would arrive, take away the already smashed-up car, and the game would continue. It was quite loud (from the roar of the engines) and specific. In general, all the females I know never understood the charm of this event.
The second event: You had to drive your pickup truck through a muddy trench, whoever was fastest. The mud even reached the spectators; many got stuck.
Concert
Everything is clear here:)
There was a concert of country singers.
Rodeo
First, as usual, the anthem, then the coolest and most well-dressed cowboy announces what's coming. First, a beautiful girl in red leather performed on a horse, riding around the circle and performing trick riding (stunts on a running horse). I would love to show a video, but alas, I don't have unlimited data:(
But the spectacle live is, of course, breathtaking, although inhumane. In less than a minute, a bull (sometimes a horse, by the way, it's more interesting to watch the horse) manages to shake the rider so well that it becomes scary even for the spectators, although we are sitting far away and it's not us being tossed and bounced around. And all this action is set to cheerful country music. The performers wear a special rigid corset on their backs and necks (I wonder when they started using the corset and how many victims there were before that). The performer must hold on for the maximum amount of time, then two cowboys ride up to him, and he jumps onto one of their horses. Or, he falls off the horse. This time everything was fine, and it seemed without any major injuries. Although, as I was told later, often the rider gets under the horse's hooves (an ambulance is always nearby).
Besides the regular rodeo, there were:
Competitions among women on horses for speed (they had to run around several barrels and return to the start).
Teams from bars (4 teams of 3 girls each) had to catch a young bull, put a T-shirt with the bar's logo on it, and bring it to the host (the girls ran very funnily, rolled in the dust, and put on the T-shirts).
Two cowboys had to chase a young bull until one of them threw a lasso on it. For speed.
One cowboy had to throw a lasso on a young bull, make the horse stand still, and while doing so, tie its front and back legs with twine. Also for speed.
At the end of the evening, the girl in red from Vegas rode by again, performing miracles of trick riding with a flag and fireworks coming out of it.
