Hello, my name is Alena and I am an alcoholic participant of the Work and Travel USA program. Although there is a certain amount of semantic truth in the statement crossed out above. I can finally truly call myself a full-fledged participant of the program after 9 circles of hell (a month for each, yeah), which I wouldn't trade for anything. Already. Now =)
Flashback (in a loose interpretation)
- Me: Hi, where are you going?
- Her: Ooo, I'm going to sign up for the Work and Travel USA program.
- Me: Cool. I would like to too. (and in my head - what the hell am I saying)
- Her: Well, let's go together.
In general, such a simple flashback was shown solely to demonstrate the stupidity of the situation, thanks to which I am now with you. This, by the way, I ask you to note - it was September! Without tiring you with the details of endless negotiations with my husband/parents/cats/myself, I will move on to the part where I once again turned out to be a Chinese person (idiom for being clueless).
The fun part of the situation is that I:
a) Do not eat meat and do not cook it - (everyone pity my spouse and chip in for a tenderloin for the unfortunate victim of my tyranny), which, of course, significantly reduces the search area, or rather reduces it to an unappealing job with the beautiful title "housekeeper".
b) I have a frankly immodest 10 years of experience working with horses, which is (as it turned out) a very valuable "character trait" in the States.
And after interrogating the IEC office in the glorious city of Barnaul, I found out that no one had ever done anything like this (in terms of looking for work with horses), but being an astronaut is profitable and honorable, so they gave me the go-ahead for a reconnaissance in force.
Reconnaissance in force consisted of a thousand and a half resumes sent across the vastness and the tedious waiting for the icon [2173263 new emails]. Naturally, I sent resumes exclusively to horse habitats, such as farms, stables, riding clubs, etc. And they didn't make me wait long - I really received an indecent number of responses, but they all consisted of invitations to work with children in summer horse camps, offering an indecently low salary. But as we all know - you can't work with children, but I would - I love children more than people.
And then came the moment when there was something to choose from:
-
North Carolina - one of the most famous farms in America for breeding Arabian horses. The salary is normal, housing is free, a car, pleasant people. And a very responsible prestigious position. 15 minutes to the ocean.
-
Virginia - a small farm practically in the "desert". Good salary, housing, food, internet, car - everything is free. I understand that they don't really know much about horses themselves and they are very bored there. But I will remember this wonderful woman for the rest of my life - throughout the entire correspondence she treated me like her own daughter and was very worried. But they didn't have a tax ID number, which immediately ruled out this option. But I was very worried - my heart was tearing to go there.
As a result, I sent the first option for verification and froze in tedious anticipation.
To be continued, if anyone is reading this nonsense =)
(I suspect that I am hopelessly stupid - I can't make the text look like dialogues and italics)
