December 30, 2011.

One day until the New Year. This is how it all began. My boyfriend and I arrived at the IEC office and signed the contract. I'll say right away that our English both suffered, so it was scary that they wouldn't take us at all. Before that, we had been going to a tutor for about 3 months, building the language from scratch.

I should clarify that the idea to go to America came to me first; some of my friends had gone through this program, and I wanted to go terribly too. I wanted to go back in February-March of last year, but it was already too late, and my English was zero. So we decided to improve it first and then go with more confidence. But, as often happens, we wasted time until September of this year. However, the greater the desire, the more persistently we began to study. And the desire was huge. Throughout that summer, I read a ton of articles, blogs, stories, guidebooks, and knew everything about America, everything about what needed to be done to go, and of course, there was no turning back. But when we signed the contract and paid the first installment, which cost us about 32,000 rubles for the two of us, it became kind of scary. Now there was a huge number of things to do, and simultaneously pass exams.

List:

  1. Find a job.
  2. Book tickets.
  3. Study English in parallel.
  4. Pass exams.
  5. Prepare for the embassy.
  6. Think about where we will live in the USA.
  7. Where we will travel.
  8. How the flight will go (and it's not a short flight).
  9. And many other things...
Now, when everything is written out in points, it doesn't seem like that much. But the feeling of nervousness is still present.
