I think it's worth describing the difficulties I faced while looking for housing in this city of sun. Initially, I planned to rent a 1br apartment, find 2 more people, and move in. But that wasn't the case. I didn't account for the fact that Orlando is a truly huge city, so at best, I could only visit 2 places a day;
To rent an apartment, a job was required. Without one, no company would allow us to rent the necessary housing;
Minimum term. In most cases, the minimum rental term was 1 year; if you moved out earlier, the deposit wouldn't be returned, plus there were other unpleasant issues;
I managed to find a minimum rental term of 3 months, but it turned out to be a rough neighborhood with an unrealistically high deposit.
Thus, after another 10 days, we gave up on trying to rent our own place and moved in with some Russians via an ad on VKontakte. The cost was $400 per room per month, which is not bad at all for two people.
But it's too early to relax; now we need to find a job urgently, as the employer bailed on us regarding the offer. At first, as I wanted, I went to Disney World; it was very tempting. But as expected, I couldn't even talk to a manager. There was a crowd of people wanting to work there at the entrance, and they had all been called for an interview based on previously filled-out application forms. I decided to fill one out too, and I got a response! Three months later...
So, Disney World, as well as Universal Studio and Sea World, are out. A pity. Now I started going around to all sorts of cafes and hotels. While in cafes they still looked at you adequately and at best offered to fill out an application, in hotels they looked at me with wide eyes, as if saying: “A Russian??? What is he doing here???” Nevertheless, I managed to get a couple of interviews that ended in rejection, as no one needed an employee just for the summer season. It was already June, and all the spots had been filled back in May.
