While Aselya and I lived at the Grizzly hotel outside of town for two weeks, we heard something strange happening at the stadium across the road every day. When we asked our employers, they explained that they host cowboy competitions called Rodeo there every evening. Although I am a curious person, I wasn't really interested in going there to watch guys dressed as cowboys torment poor horses and other animals just to prove who is tougher. When we moved to the city center, the Macedonian guys were baffled as to why we never went to that very rodeo while living so close to the stadium. In reality, with no other entertainment around, the Rodeo is the most popular and famous event in Cody, its main attraction, so to speak. But when I found out how much a ticket cost (a whole 18 bucks), I decided I'd rather go and buy myself a bunch of earrings with that money.) But one day, Viki came up to me and said that as a bonus for our good work, she wanted to take us to the rodeo since we had never been. Well, what could we do, it would have been awkward to refuse... so that evening, Viki picked us up and drove us to the stadium. She didn't want to stay herself, as she had seen it many times, so she said she would pick us up around 10 PM when it was all over. Despite it being August and incredibly hot during the day, it got very cold in Cody at night, so we dressed as warmly as possible. The rodeo started at 8 PM... there was a massive crowd. First, all the participants jumped onto the field on their horses. After showing off, they rode back, and the rodeo itself began. I never managed to understand what Americans find in it, but they were screaming like crazy. Basically, the point of this competition is to show that you are the best cowboy among all the others. First, they had to hold on to a wild horse the longest, then catch a small calf as quickly as possible, and after that, I don't know what they were doing because we were frozen to the bone, and Aselya's eyes started watering from the dust. We spent half the rodeo in the restroom, warming up by the hand dryer. When this strange rodeo finally ended, we went outside to wait for Viki to pick us up. Of course, we told her that we had never had such a fun time in our lives and that we really, really enjoyed the rodeo.) After saying goodbye and thanking her for an unforgettable evening, we ran home as fast as we could to warm up.)
