Instruction: 'How to spend an unforgettable 2 days in Boston, or the adventures of Lena and Liza'.
To spend an unforgettable 2 days in Boston, you will need:
- Yourself - an adventure lover (Lena, or as Americans called me at best Lina, at worst Lyana)
- Your friend, an avid adventure seeker, Liza
- A bit of money, since it won't be enough for accommodation anyway, and you'll have plenty of clothes by the end of the trip)
- A backpack or bag with the essentials (by the way, you'll need money for what you'll successfully forget at home... but you'll take a useless but heavy hair straightener and whine the whole time about how heavy the bag is)
Well, you've packed, realized from previous times using Greyhound that it's an expensive company, and you head to Chinatown on the B or D train to Grand Street station.
There are many wonderful little offices here that will take you to Boston for twenty bucks, and the buses run every hour and are no less comfortable than Greyhound, because the Chinese are hardworking!!)))
I also forgot that both you and your friend must be sleep-deprived, because in New York, sleeping is just a waste of time! - that's the golden rule.
We jumped on the bus and had 4 hours to catch up on sleep. Once again, when you're traveling, you realize that Americans mow their lawns even outside the city... Funny.
I don't know why, but I found us so funny)) When we got off the bus and it finally dawned on us that we were in a new city, not a single acquaintance, no map... we didn't despair, Americans are kind people (well, the ones we met) and the first policeman we met gave us each a city and subway map, and even explained where we were and how to get to the center (he couldn't understand for a long time which center we were interested in, but then he realized it was the tourist one).
As a responsible person, I tore the pages about Boston out of the 'Discover America' book and we knew exactly what we wanted to see! So, we are already in the oldest and most famous park in the city, somewhere here there should be monuments to the Boston Massacre and a monument dedicated to the Declaration of Independence (as a future international lawyer, it was interesting for me to see this monument).
In this same park, we found a tourist center and grabbed a bunch of brochures about Boston museums and excursions. We got fired up with the desire to go see the Salem witches...))))
Yeah, in the second half of the day, don't forget to think about where you're going to spend the night!!! This is important because the bus station doesn't count))
Then we decided to go to Harvard University... mmmmm, this is what I was striving for in Boston! Dreams... to be near Harvard Law School... they came true, where the blonde in Legally Blonde studied... of course, that's not the main thing, that Elle Woods studied there, but that I touched the abode of knowledge, maybe someday I will study there (when I save up a crazy amount of dollars=))).
We walked around the campus with our mouths open, well, because it's Harvard University, it's a whole mini-town where there are only students and teachers, where there is a completely different air and atmosphere... We took pictures with the statue of John Harvard, rubbed his shoe (we saw graduates from the year 19-something doing it, apparently there was a reunion that day and we decided it was a good omen... but as it turned out later... not a very good one, local students told us that there is a tradition that freshmen pee on Harvard's shoe...).
When it started to get dark, we remembered that we should ask where there are hostels here))) Then we noticed a donkey walking down the street... or rather a boy in a donkey costume. Of course, we wanted to take a picture with him))) The donkey didn't mind, and we asked him about a place to stay. The donkey turned out to be very kind and said he would help us and not leave us on the street, and at the same time give us a tour of the university))
He showed us the local dorms... and now hold on!! If we had such dorms, I think everyone would live in them!! First of all, it's a very beautiful building with large rooms for two, secondly, with its own bathroom and toilet, which are very clean and tidy, and with various rooms for leisure... I was in shock) and they also have a huge dining hall (we got there the next morning), where they eat for free... and we ate there too... by the way, it's a buffet... Of course, we didn't hold back and loaded a full tray of everything at breakfast!! If an ordinary student came out with a plate of porridge and half a grapefruit and a glass of juice or coffee, then the Russian students took everything and more... 2 glasses of juice, all kinds of fruit, 2 pancakes, yogurt, potatoes with a cutlet, scrambled eggs and a muffin... not bad for breakfast?? We ate it for a long time, but persistently!!))) well guys, it's freebies after all))))
In the dorm, in the passages between the buildings, all the walls are painted, and we even found an inscription in Ukrainian! And we were introduced to three girls who are native Americans but are studying Russian!!! We were pleasantly surprised to hear that one of them speaks Russian brilliantly!! At first, we didn't believe she was American, as the accent is very slight, she told her story that in 6th grade she chose to study Russian and she likes it very much, she even went to live in St. Petersburg)))
In general, the first day in Boston, Massachusetts went magically!!! It ended with us being invited to a real student party... why do I say real? Because it was a real American student party)) everyone has seen parties in American movies where a bunch of people gather at someone's house, music, red disposable cups for drinks and alcohol? That's it, it was just like that)) with the same fun atmosphere)) By the way, Molly, the girl who speaks Russian perfectly, is even on VKontakte!! She is the one who sheltered us in her room))
To be continued...
