I guess when you're in another country, you start getting more attached to people... I spent the last two months with Vika, a girl from St. Petersburg. She found me through this blog; in her first message, she asked how dangerous Cape Town was, and I replied that it was safe... I didn't think it would feel so empty once she left Cape Town...
But she didn't leave without an adventure!
We met in the morning at our favorite cafe, hung out online as usual, and suddenly realized there was no one to take us to the airport... we had to leave in 30 minutes... Right there in the cafe, we made a deal with a guy to drive us... Lucky for us, the world isn't without kind people! We ran home, grabbed our things, got in the car, stopped at a gas station, and... they filled us up with diesel instead of gasoline... oops... it happens... We were standing at the gas station with a suitcase, not knowing what to do... and then I remembered my PR manager from work... When he answered, I realized he was still asleep... but the flight was in an hour and a half, so there was no choice... only him! 10 minutes later, we were already in a car heading to the airport... That was the end of our adventures, not counting my meltdown at the airport and for the rest of the day... Everyone at work was shocked that I could do more than just smile—I could cry too... The chef even asked me if I was a lesbian by any chance :)
So I can say, yes... Cape Town is dangerous!
It's dangerous because of how strongly you get attached to everything here...
