Chapter eleven: feeling pretty sad
I messed up a bit. I didn't write something down in my haste. Although, I didn't write down a lot of things... Anyway, one day Kiryusha and I stopped by a pawn shop on our way to work). The left side had guitars, amps, motorcycles, and tools, and the right side had jewelry. And one fine day, I saw her. The guitar of my dreams. It met all my requirements for an ideal electric guitar: old-school shape, modest look... and when we listened to it and saw it was from Japan, it was obvious: we had to take it, and fast. The seller was happy to help with all our requests, we got to chatting, and he said his wife was Russian, so he really respected all Russians. He said this guitar was from the 70s, which is why it sounded so excellent, soft, and deep. We were on pins and needles until the next day, and first thing in the morning, without even having breakfast, we went to get HER. I bought my dream for a ridiculous sum of $200, along with a beautiful case...
And the next day, on our way to work, we saw from afar that something was wrong at the pawn shop. Everything was cordoned off by police and ambulances, with officers with walkie-talkies everywhere. Something terrible had happened. And that night, on our way home, we saw police sketches of a man and a woman posted on the pawn shop door. It turned out that these two had broken into the pawn shop to rob the jewelry department, and the employees stood in their way. They shot them... Including that nice guy who had sold us the guitar the day before... Our blood ran cold. For a long time, there was a huge padlock on the pawn shop doors and those eerie photos, with flowers stuck everywhere. We became more cautious. Caressa started driving us to work in her car and bringing us home when we worked late shifts, saying she was worried about us.
We saw other sides of America. Things aren't always smooth here. People die here just like everywhere else...
