Quest 5. I always take my video camera with me
This is exactly that case. You need at least one camera)) And a dozen batteries. Some say you should pack minimal clothes and food - if you don't care about food quality, sure. Regarding clothes - even the smallest size at Walmart was twice as big for me (including, sadly, underwear)). Plus, an average t-shirt is, say, 8 dollars. I definitely needed about 7 of those...
If I were to go to the Myrtle Beach area next time, I would take the following: 7-8 t-shirts, the same number of pairs of socks (you usually can't work in sandals), good sneakers, cheap market sneakers for 200 rubles (exactly 200, a lucky number), sandals (good or very good ones - the main footwear), as finding truly decent ones there turned out to be difficult. A couple of pairs of pants (one light, one decent), a couple of pairs of shorts, and 3 warm items - a jacket, a sweater, and a hoodie - for yourself and for that guy) Just in case.) As for food - we took 5 kg of buckwheat, the same amount of rice and oatmeal, canned goods, and all that. If you don't mind eating corn with fish and pine cone genes, you don't need to bring anything from Russia, everything is cheap there. Although a bit more expensive than here.
Also, make sure to get all necessary documents at the agency office before your trip!!! Because the agency might not keep track of everything and might forget to remind or give someone something (like it happened to us=) oh, how angry we were then:)). You must have on hand: your national passport, international passport with a visa, job offer, tickets or their printouts, DS-2019 form and/or a work permit paper (I don't remember, but it seems they are different things, though I'm not sure). In short, come to the office right before the trip (a couple of days before) and make sure you have received all the documents. Otherwise, they will turn you back at the airport. And sadly, already at the New York one...
And most importantly - TAKE A LAPTOP!!! Any one, as long as it has WiFi and storage!!)) Keep scans of all your documents on it, copies also on your email; this will significantly make it easier to smooth over the consequences of some mess-up, which won't happen if you do this, but will definitely happen if you forget. Murphy's Law hasn't been canceled yet))
You can use the laptop to chat, look for work, HOUSING (mega important), make online purchases (from insurance to another laptop), settle affairs with the bank (via their online system), call via Skype if you ran out of money on your phone or just don't have one, block your bank card if you lost it, find a route in New York (or London or anywhere else), message people on VK and agency forums regarding all of the above for advice or joint special operations (again, for example, renting housing) and much more. You need it immediately. Don't put off buying it until you're in America. Without it, it's like being without air.
