I was making bagels—they're like a donut-shaped bun—and the things they do with them! You get these masterpiece sandwiches that are cheap and filling—I recommend them to everyone.... I worked with my girlfriend, she was a waitress.
Our bosses were excellent—Anna and Angelo—cheerful and energetic young Greeks who seemed like they never gave in to gloom
. I will always remember their friendly bickering with each other.
In general, the experience gained turned out to be very valuable, not only as a future contribution to our lives but also as incredible impressions received at all stages of our journey. Now my girlfriend takes over the story...
Well, you've already read about the work for guys—as for the girls, there's plenty of room for imagination and action... It's good to work as a waiter—you'll be especially lucky if you've already worked in this environment in your own country at least a little... The language practice here is good, and the cooks are usually sweethearts, always ready to help and cheer you up ;).
At my first job, I had to learn a lot, but despite all the difficulties, it was very interesting, so never lose your enthusiasm for anything ;) friends support you a lot in such moments... But still, if you don't like the job, quit—such a job isn't worth your nerves or patience—there is a lot of work in America and it's really important not to give up—and to believe. That's how our friends—they looked for work for a very long time—and found it ;)!
If a job comes along that you like, go for it, even if it's in another city—you'll visit friends on weekends or days off, although while they are giving you work, it's better not to take them ;).
Girls, definitely bring sneakers, ballet flats, loafers—any closed, comfortable shoes... it's not customary to work in flip-flops in this country ;).
Take a cap) it might come in handy—both for rain and for the scorching sun, although if you decide to go to Alaska, I don't think you'll need a cap
. I'm warning you right away—acquaintances who decided to conquer Alaska weren't entirely happy with their choice—they ruined their health, couldn't rest at all, plus it's quite realistic to find such a salary in a coastal sunny town, so think for yourself and make a balanced decision.
Also, girls, sometimes you need to show character at work—not all people are kind and sweet, sometimes you meet those with whom walking the same path isn't exactly pleasant, so be very careful—if there is any discomfort, it's better to spend less time in such company.
