Finally! This time I'm writing about how great it is to work in the USA. I fundamentally don't want to focus on the financial side of this trip, because I already mentioned that we arrived quite late, job hunting took a lot of time, and we have to leave earlier than the program allows. I just want to share my impressions of this amazing experience.
After a really long (or to be more precise, three-week) search, I finally found a job at Tony Luke's restaurant, which serves excellent sandwiches. The first two working days seemed quite difficult to me because I had to fit a lot of new information into my head. My duties, as it turned out, included not only taking orders and payments for them, but also preparing everything for the cafe opening, handing out orders, and just making sure everything was in order. I was given a branded t-shirt and a cap, and I also had to make an unplanned purchase of black jeans and sneakers to maintain the establishment's style.
But when I figured out all my duties and the manipulations related to the register, I learned to enjoy my work. I met all the guys from the restaurant, and the customers were the sweetest and most welcoming. It seems everyone is genuinely interested in how you are doing. Although, I admit, I didn't have to get used to it for long. I would even say this positivity is quite contagious! Many visitors asked me about Belarus and my impressions of Atlantic City and, no less importantly, left good tips. I really wanted to smile at everyone and help them choose the tastiest sandwich they had ever tried.
Besides that, the guys and I found a second job at one of the largest hotel-casinos in Atlantic City - Tropicana. And if you follow my updates on Instagram, you already know that all this time I've been working... ta-da... on the beach! Sounds like a dream job, doesn't it? Generally speaking, it is. My job is called Beach Recreations Attendant, but in simple terms, I need to bring umbrellas, sun loungers, and towels to vacationers, and then help load everything back. Once a week I worked by the pool, and this part of my job was sometimes really boring. Although there were always a lot of people in the outdoor pool, good internet, and guys who are fun to work with.
Combining two jobs and not feeling like a zombie is not the easiest task. Sun loungers and umbrellas turned out not to be as light as I imagined them to be. Apparently, that's why only a couple of girls work in the team with the guys. But I won't complain, because I worked in a team with great guys! Plus, I like to look at the pleasant sides of everything happening to me, so I'm sure that switching from mental activity to physical was only good for me.
By the way, one of the nicest bonuses of working on the beach is free lunches in the cafeteria intended for Tropicana employees. Seriously, every time I promise myself not to eat everything I see, but the food there is so delicious that it's really hard to stop.
Instagram: 1. Group photo with the best team in the world. 2. Night shift at Tony Luke's. Starbucks Refresher. 3. Workplace - outdoor pool. 4. Beach Recreations Attendant. Employee of the month.
Since every day spent in Atlantic City, after I found two jobs at once, was very busy, I didn't manage to publish all the material at once. Therefore, my posts are a little behind reality. I have only two weeks left in the USA, and these will be the best two weeks of the whole summer! Stay tuned, and have a great weekend, everyone!
