Here is a cool fact about Manhattan, or a youth's dream. All the blocks have a regular geometric shape, so it's very hard to get lost here. The main dividers are avenues, the smaller ones are streets. That is, to walk from street to street is about 2 blocks, and from avenue to avenue is about 5. One intersects the other. Such a compact layout creates the illusion that the whole district is nearby. This was done mainly for motorists, but pedestrians also benefit from it.
Although there is a war between drivers and pedestrians here too, everyone is very tolerant and silently lets each other pass, even saying thank you. And the crossing sign looks like a white walking man, while the stop sign is a red palm. Sometimes this palm flashes, accompanied by a countdown. The system is great, but people walk on red light calmly, and no one cares.
There are subway entrances on every corner. But as I said, that's a completely different topic..
So, this is just wonderful, one of my favorites.
I used to run a blog on VKontakte (https://vk.com/wielec_usa). More information there.
