I wanted to dedicate this blog post to food:)
People have been asking me what I ate there and if I gained a lot of weight. Honestly, I was really worried about my weight. I thought I'd come back 10 kg heavier. But thank God the scale only moved by 3.
The products there are really different from ours. They have organic and non-organic options. Try to buy organic as much as possible! Yes, they are more expensive. But I've seen cases where people tried to save money and ended up with allergies to the food. At least buy organic milk and eggs. How to tell the difference? It usually says "organic" on the packaging. And you'll easily tell by the price. If you see a large carton of milk for just $2, and next to it 2 liters for $4, it becomes clear what's what:) The price difference is very noticeable on products like chicken breast, for example:) It's not just about the price, but also the taste—you'll feel it.
It's a huge temptation to go for fast food when you're short on cash. Try to avoid it. We sometimes ate at McDonald's when we wanted to save more money before the trip, but you shouldn't eat there even twice a week! Also, eat fewer muffins (they are very popular there). You'll surely have a Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks nearby. When you get coffee there, you always want something else. We bought coffee there every day since it cost between $1 and $5. With a wage of $8.50 an hour, you can definitely afford it) Try to cook like you do at home, then you'll definitely stay in shape. If you realize you've eaten way too much—running is your best friend))
It's very hard to find buckwheat. We bought buckwheat at a Russian store, and only once. It's not cheap there. And in general, nothing in a Russian store is that cheap))
Ice cream there is insanely high in calories, so try not to drop by for it too often.)) And be careful with coffee with syrups; they really go heavy on it there))
But in general, don't worry so much. Just try to eat as close to your usual diet as possible. But that doesn't mean you should deny yourself everything. America has many treats that you should try. After all, where else, if not here and now? You'll regret it later if you don't try all sorts of American goodies))
But there are some strange things there too. For example, cappuccino-flavored chips. That was a shock for us))) How is that possible?))
I advise you to find wholesale grocery stores. The prices there are much cheaper, and you can stock up for 2-3 weeks in advance. But there are many temptations there too))) For example, a whole cheesecake for just $12!!!))) When we were at that store, we bought a lot of "healthy" things, but we also bought necessary stuff too)) Attaching a photo for illustration)))
Try to eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible there!!!) They aren't very expensive there)
Actually, don't worry. If you are very concerned about your figure, you'll set your mindset before you leave, and you definitely won't gain more than 2-3 kg. Enjoy your trip and don't stress)
P.S. Treat yourself to goodies periodically; it will lift your mood when you're feeling sad:)
