Yes, it has chemicals and preservatives, for the simple reason that preservatives are absolutely everywhere (except for a cucumber straight from the garden).
Yes, it's high-calorie and unhealthy, but the ocean is right there and nobody has canceled sports.
Yes, it costs money, but this food is worth it!
In general, if you have a sweet tooth/are a foodie/love trying new things/are studying taste buds/want to surprise your family with a new dish/collect candy wrappers/adore pastries, you simply must try everything you can get your hands on!
Honestly, I do miss the people, the ocean, the nature, the animals, and the cities, but most of all, I miss the food. And I don't care that it's mostly fast food.
All kinds of pizza with various fresh toppings, huge burgers with meat patties and cheese, steaks of different doneness, aromatic bread, Mexican tacos and burritos, tons of chicken with different sauces, just as much ice cream, donuts that melt in your mouth, apple fritters, cheese sticks, pancakes with syrup, sweet buns, pecan pies, peanut butter, waffles (the soft ones, eaten in the morning with syrup), wafers (which we call waffles), pies, pastries, cakes, brownies, cookies, Butterfingers, and candy, candy, candy! You can afford all of this, and it is truly veeery delicious.
Tip: In supermarkets after 9 or 10 PM, the price for pastries (donuts, sweets) usually drops by half. They need to sell what was prepared this morning.
In the southern states, they don't drink tea. I mean, they do drink it, but not the way people in Europe and Russia are used to.
In the South, they drink iced tea, which is tea that is ice-cold and very, very sweet. My hostess looked at my hot green tea with lemon and no sugar with horror (the same way she looked at buckwheat. And at oatmeal without sugar and cinnamon). Coffee, by the way, is also very often drunk cold and with caramel/any other syrup. They drink Coke instead of water; water in establishments is provided for free.
But any perversions with drinks can be forgiven at least for the presence of the goodies mentioned above)
Tip: Do not drink or smoke cigarettes. If the harm to your body doesn't scare you, I hope the harm to your wallet does: it is very expensive in the USA.
