What do people usually say at moments like this?
Welcome home?
Or welcome to a little hell?
Yeah, Aziz, why hell? You wanted to come back so much, didn't you?
You see, I've been told hundreds of times that returning after months away is rarely what you expect. Usually, there are dozens of changes that you really don't want to see.
What has changed here?
Well, almost everything.
Let's start with the people. Of course, I realized that it wouldn't be the same people. There wouldn't be those same late-night hangouts by the river or lake right away. It's not a given that there will be wild parties with oceans of beer. I'm not saying they're canceled forever, but for now, they definitely are. The people are completely different. There are none of those who were so close to my heart, whom I grew to love over those 4 months, whom I knew almost inside out because we lived in the same house. Some of them are coming back, but I have to wait for that moment, and for now, I'm just bored. It takes time to learn to love new people. It's just like that.
Secondly, the new management. As they say: "a new broom sweeps clean." It's the same here. The rules, the menu, the dormitory regulations, and other little things have changed completely. In other words, I don't like the manager, but oh well.
To be honest? At some point, all of this is such a trifle. Somewhere between nostalgic memories, I realized that I had returned to the place I had been drawn to for so long. And this option is significantly better than if I hadn't returned here. I experienced so many incredible events here last season that I will proudly remember for the rest of my life, and I just wasn't ready to trade this place for another.
Several of my closest international friends are returning here, and we've already consulted and decided to prove this season what kind of stuff last year's workers are made of. After all, nothing and no one can stop our fun this season, especially when we've been waiting for it for so long.
As I said. All of this is a big new stage, new adventures that also include obstacles. That's what life is all about. And not just Work and Travel, but all of life that follows. It's about the changes you have to overcome. After all, you can't always have a perfect job, right? Sometimes you still have to change something somewhere, and for that, you have to try to make sure that changes enter your life as smoothly as possible.
Only, changes can happen not just at work, but in other areas of our lives too. And much tougher ones than a new manager.
That's how it is.
Alright, I can officially announce here that the season is open. Even though it's very slow, soon I'll be stepping into the kitchen for the first time, and there will be the first unhappy (or maybe happy) post about my first day of work.
