Last year, I had a unique manager named Matt Carlin who was always ready to help, very welcoming, and treated us like friends. A waitress named Kelsey, to whom he was engaged, also worked with us. They had a wedding planned for this year. Last season, they had even started handing out invitations.
Returning, I really wanted to see them, but they were no longer working at our restaurant; they had moved to our hotel to work as servers there. Yes, the pay was better, and that was more important to them at the time. Some time after I arrived, they visited me, and we had a very warm reunion. Honestly, I didn't expect them to invite me to the wedding. It was incredibly pleasant. The event was scheduled for September 5th of this year. Both I, Mihaela, and Evgeni were invited, but unfortunately, he had already left by then.
As guests should, we prepared for the event in advance and even bought some clothing items specifically for the evening. For us, it was something unique. Our first American wedding.
How was it?
We usually see American weddings taking place at an altar, but here everything was completely different. Everything took place in an open area - on a veranda. It also happened to be raining heavily, but that didn't spoil the impression of the evening at all.
It looked chic. Everything was very neat and beautiful. A little to the left of the frame stood benches, which represented, roughly speaking, that very "altar" where the ceremony took place.
Guests were greeted personally by the groom; to the side was a lovely table with photos of the couple, as well as a box for wishes, envelopes, and gifts in general. And at the entrance, guests were given an essential American wedding attribute - lavender. By tradition, you have to throw lavender over the newlyweds for good luck.
The ceremony itself took place in an incredibly sentimental atmosphere, as the love between these people is simply impossible to convey. They just couldn't wait for that very moment. It was especially touching when Kelsey teared up first, and he wiped her tears with a handkerchief, and then he teared up in the exact same way. And everyone sitting there was endlessly touched. The ceremony was conducted by our company's HR and accountant, Martha.
And after the ceremony, the newlyweds went outside, and we showered them with lavender.
After that, the benches were removed, and we were allowed to enjoy snacks, alcohol, and later dishes, as well as take photos with the newlyweds.
And the most beautiful part, of course, happened closer to the evening, when this veranda lit up. Music is playing, people are in such a great mood, there is a pleasant rain, and such incredible beauty all around. Just imagine this sight. A wedding somewhere in the mountains, practically under the open sky. It's fantastic!
But the biggest decoration of the evening was the love of the newlyweds. I looked at them and was amazed at how they glowed looking at each other. By the way, they are now in Australia. They left for a one-year Trainee Program similar to Work and Travel USA. By the way, at the very end, all the guests stood in a corridor once again to see the newlyweds off to the car, throwing that same lavender. And with shouts, laughter, and fun, they finally left the evening. And after them, the rest of us dispersed.
