5 hours on the bus and Voila! Welcome to the greenest state in the USA - Maine. The main distinctive feature is probably that the state, being in the far northeast of the country, borders Canada, which is why there are so many French speakers here. For me, this was very useful, as I study English and French at university. A friend who once traveled here and fell in love with a small tourist town on the Atlantic coast - Ogunquit - recommended this state to me. That is where I spent my best summer!!!
But not everything was as smooth as I would have liked. I will tell you one story that happened to me on my first day in this town. Upon arrival, my friend and I called the person we were going to live with. It was assumed that he would meet us. We warned him several times, but for some reason, he just didn't pick up the phone. We decided to go look for this house ourselves with heavy suitcases and tired from the road... We found it... And then the most interesting part began... The thing is, my job offer was at a souvenir shop, but they, unfortunately, did not provide housing. However, my friend, who had a job at a Mexican restaurant, was provided with housing, and we agreed with the employer that I would live with them. Lesson number one - don't take risks and look for a job that provides a roof over your head. Protect yourself. There are no guarantees anywhere. In the end, a place was found for me too, and I started living with this big Mexican family..
After that, it was just happiness... wonderful work, new friends, and true love... A piece of this town is always with me... in my memories.
