Let me tell you more about my job. I want to say that I was clearly lucky with my work! I worked as a sales assistant in a souvenir shop, where a bunch of tourists from all corners of the USA passed by me. The team was very small and very friendly. I felt very comfortable, despite the fact that at first I was the only international student working there. In the middle of the summer, two more girls joined. The work is not difficult at all, the salary is decent, they give just the right amount of hours per week and even more!!! Isn't it a blast to work without getting your hands dirty, while communicating with such a large number of people.
Lesson number 2 - never be afraid to stand up for your rights at work! I will tell you about a situation that happened to me. The thing is, in the company I worked for, there were 2 stores in my city, but according to the contract, I was supposed to work in only one. Since they were short-staffed for a while, I worked in one, then in the other. And finally, I got tired of it. In one of the stores, I didn't get along with one of the saleswomen right away... It felt like she was constantly competing with me and wouldn't let me work in peace. In the end, I reported this first to my manager, and he, simply the best manager in the world, immediately reported it to the owner and stood up for me. As a result, we were gathered, we expressed all our grievances, and I started working only in the store where I was supposed to. And the most interesting thing is that after everything that happened, I received a small promotion and, accordingly, a higher salary.
Why am I saying all this?! I have witnessed more than once that employers do not value their international workers and treat them disrespectfully. If this suddenly happens to someone, I want you not to sit idly by, to remember that you have rights, and not to let things take their course. You are the ones building your best summer!
Thanks to this job in the USA, I gained huge experience in communicating with people, responsibility, and even became more self-confident! This experience is now for a lifetime...
