Let the adventures begin! That phrase started my journey to America. The trip itself was a huge gamble for me. I had been dreaming of America for a long time. Like everyone else, I wanted to see it for myself. To each their own. So, here is how it all started. I was planning the trip with my best friend. It's easier and more fun together. Arriving at the airport in Kaliningrad, we found out that our flight was canceled and we could only fly to Moscow in the morning. Consequently, all our tickets, hotel bookings, and our entire trip were suddenly at risk. It's impossible to describe what we felt at that moment. You are so close to your dream, and then this happens. Plus, our agency representative was in Riga. It felt like everything was against us!! I still remember that sleepless night, the calls and messages. Huge thanks to the girls from our agency for their prompt and coordinated work. They were always in touch with us. After rebooking our tickets with minimal extra costs, we flew to Moscow in the morning. But that was just the beginning.
Staying with friends in Moscow, we realized we had nowhere to stay in New York. Our options were the subway or very expensive hotel rooms. Neither worked for us. Fortunately, our friend knew some people in New York and gave us their contacts. She said they were good people from the CIS. Naturally, a not-so-great picture formed in my head. Strangers, two girls alone in New York. But there was no choice. The subway option wasn't any better. And from that moment, my stereotypes started to crumble. The guys turned out to be just great! They met us, fed us, showed us the city, told us stories, and even saw us off. And they did it for free. Yes, that happens. The world is full of kind people. Moreover, on the way back, we stayed with them again and we still keep in touch. If it hadn't been for the ticket situation, we wouldn't have met them. Who knows how things would have turned out!!! In our town of Myrtle Beach, we were met by an employer who we were also lucky with. What can I say, we ended up exactly where we dreamed. The ocean across the street, work two minutes from home. Sun, palm trees, and a white sandy beach. Too good to be true, you might think. Of course, we were lucky and everything worked out as we wanted. But there were downsides; they exist everywhere. We also waited for the end of the workday, got tired of the influx of tourists, complained to each other about the boss, fought and suffered from insects (they are huge there)... We cried and laughed, missed our loved ones. But we tried not to notice them because just being in that place was a wonderful gift. By the way, we worked as sales assistants in a tourist shop. And that really helped us practice our language. You have to speak whether you want to or not.
People are different and interesting from all corners of our planet. I won't be an exception and I advise you: don't be afraid and speak, speak, and speak again! If they don't understand you the first time, they will by the fifth. In general, I liked everything in my state and city. The work, the climate, the conditions...
But the main thing is the people we met along the way. Again, maybe we were just lucky. But I made so many acquaintances—Americans, Russians, and guys from different corners of our planet. It's really cool! Everyone was always ready to help and support. And being in another country, that is especially important. There was everything: crazy parties, quiet cozy evenings, late-night hangouts on the ocean shore. My water adventures and the subsequent interesting meeting with a lifeguard during my rescue. In short, there are plenty of memories. But that's a separate story, and not just one, which friends have already heard many times. I should have started a blog earlier. Here is something else I want to tell you. I will never tire of repeating how small the world is. Meeting a good acquaintance in a small resort town on the other side of the earth, in a bar (which we entered by chance), whom I hadn't seen in 3 years. To put it mildly, I was in shock.
Yes, yes, that happens too. And as you have already realized, adventures accompany me everywhere. I only recall my unforgettable trip with warmth and a racing heart. And once upon a time, I couldn't even imagine it. Go for it, and you will succeed!!!
