What's an adventure without a little trouble? I didn't have to wait long.
One day, I really wanted a burger. I headed out, but my data plan ran out, so I lost access to my online map and got lost. The McDonald's was quite far away, and there were no sidewalks, just a highway, but that didn't stop me. I walked for two hours—no houses, no buildings, I was definitely lost. There was nothing else to do, so I just walked and cried, cried and walked. A car stopped, and a woman was driving. I don't know what kind of situation I would have ended up in if it weren't for her. She ended up driving me to a McDonald's, but it turned out I was in the next town over. I couldn't explain which one I needed because my phone had died. We went to her husband's house. I walked in, and a dog with a toy met me at the door—just like in the American movies. What wonderful people I met. They decided to take me home, so we got in the car and hit the road. On the way, we passed that ill-fated McDonald's and stopped to eat. While we were eating, we started talking about different countries. A grandmother, about 75-80 years old, overheard us and joined in. It turned out she had visited over 100 countries and was waiting for her daughter, who was coming to see her after graduating from Stanford. We ate and said our goodbyes. The three of us continued our trip, stopping at a supermarket to stock up. I bought a lot of pasta and just the bare essentials. When I met them at the exit, they handed me a bag full of sweets—A WHOLE BAG. I quickly ran back inside and bought postcards so I could leave at least a small memory. I thought that was it and I'd get home peacefully, but no. On the way, the woman saw an ice cream stand and exclaimed, "Honey, I want ice creaaaaammmm," so her husband slammed on the brakes, and we had to go get ice cream.
We chatted the whole way. I've never met such kind and open people; now I know that such people exist, and I will try to be one of them. When I gave them the postcards, they were as happy as if I had given them a whole bag of sweets instead of the other way around. What a day. I felt like I was in an American movie. I never thought I'd be so lucky to meet such good people. We exchanged numbers, hugs, and kisses. I am so grateful for this unforgettable experience.
