How to save on mobile services in the USA?
While in the USA, you will be puzzled by the search for a cheap mobile operator, as popular companies charge from $50 per month for their services. That is, in 4 months you can spend $200+ just on communication, which, of course, is not very pleasant. That was the case for me too.
Back in my first summer, I started looking for ways to save money. One of the ways was eBay.
I ordered a "Simple Mobile" SIM card with 6GB of internet, unlimited calls and texts for $16, whereas in retail stores it cost $40.
Simple Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) operating on T-Mobile infrastructure. There are many such virtual operators in the USA, and the differences between them are minimal.
As a result, after 4 days I received the SIM card, inserted it into my phone, messaged the seller on eBay, they activated it for me, and I had internet. After a month, I threw away the SIM card and ordered a new one.
Pros:
- Significant savings on mobile service costs;
- No need to look for an office to register the card;
- No documents required.
Cons:
- To receive a SIM card, you must have a physical address in the USA;
- Time is needed to wait for the package;
- If you arrive at the airport, you first need to get to your destination to order a SIM card;
- Constant change of mobile number.
IMPORTANT
- If you decide to order a Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, or Sprint SIM card, you must carefully read the item description on eBay, as often to work with these operators, you need a phone purchased in the USA that works with specific frequency bands. You can check phone support on the operator's website.
- Always check the coverage area before purchasing.
