Every day we grew closer with the girls. I worked as a housekeeper 5 days a week, but I wanted more since there was nothing to do on weekends. After talking to the owner of the resort, I got extra hours in the kitchen. I'll say right away that this summer I tried as many professions as I could never have imagined. Tip! If you want to work more, discuss it with your employers first, as all overtime hours will be paid at 150% or what Americans call "time-and-a-half".
At work, I met wonderful people: Sue, a typical American grandma who canned the most delicious jam for the winter. She gave Ksyusha, Kamilla, and me 5 jars of jelly and jam.
Taylor and AJ, who took us to the city of Duluth, which captivated us with its architecture and beauty. In the evenings, we watched movies and played cards with these guys. Explaining the rules of "Durak" didn't work out, so we played "Bullshit".
Sam, the bartender, who persistently taught me how to pour beer without foam, but I only managed to spill all the beer on myself. I often chatted with him and his guests at the bar counter; sometimes he left me behind the bar, and then the guests received the strongest alcoholic drinks of their lives. Sam has hyperelastic skin; he loved betting $10 with new visitors that he could stretch his skin more than they could. And they would agree.
Michael, Cory, Andre, and Dylan, or the 'kitchen guys' :D, tried to make these months memorable for us. We shot guns, played mini-golf, ate at various American restaurants, went to the cinema, and visited many neighboring towns—I don't remember their names, their population was small—no more than 200 people.
Once Michael took us to a city to a casino; it was unusual, something new for us. We lost about $50 in total, but it was cool to see pensioners losing their entire pension on slot machines, and young couples showing their feelings every time one of them won or lost.
