Working at Dunkin', I had to get up at 3 AM. We officially opened at 5 AM, but before that time, you had to manage to prep coffee
, sandwiches
, set out fresh donuts
, and perform daily temperature checks for the fridge and oven.

Our manager was great, an Indian woman who has lived in America for a long time; she was very friendly but too talkative—I think that's why she broke Dunkin' sales records.
Customers vary, but it's nice that most of them are very friendly. During this time, I heard more compliments than in my entire life.
Regular customers get used to you
, so they jokingly offered to adopt us so we could stay in America.
After work, I would head to my second job, which was in the neighboring town of West Dennis
. I worked in the kitchen

, periodically received inventory, cooked, washed dishes, and did prep work. The staff was pretty decent and fun, but they drank a lot
.
Everyone drank, even if you weren't 16; that was the bar's policy. You were allowed everything, including free food and drinks—the main thing was to work!
Pros of working at the bar:
- You save on food
- You save on food
- You save on food
❗ If you already have a bad liver, forget about this place, or you'll have to save money for a transplant!
There were catastrophically few hours at the bar, and we had to look for another place.
I tried my hand as a housekeeper; honestly, the work is hard,
unpleasant, and not worth the money. So, after three days, I quit.
By a stroke of luck, we found out that a local clothing brand was hiring, and of course, we contacted them immediately. The next day, we were already working as sales associates at Cuffy’s!
They gave us cool and comfortable uniforms. Unfortunately, people immediately knew who to ask questions to
Just kidding
.
People were mostly friendly, and it was especially nice when they hugged you and praised you to the manager
. And the manager would praise you!
There was a very cozy atmosphere; the seniors took care of the juniors, sometimes fed us free food, helped us with problems, and gave us rides home.
I would return from work at 12 AM, and at 3 AM
I would get up again for Dunkin'. I was severely sleep-deprived; I never thought I could work with such a schedule
. And after two months, it all seems like a hazy dream!
There were times when there wasn't even time to eat, and you'd wait all day for your 30-minute break
. I can say that during these three months, you really start to value time!
So, my summer is coming to an end; of course, I wanted to stay, why hide the truth
.
Even the manager offered for me to get married
, but I'm not ready for that! The option to stay illegally isn't my style either!
I decided that I will definitely return, but legally!!!
Only through your own efforts can you achieve your goal! Of course, you can cut yourself some slack, but only for a bigger push!
Work and Travel will forever remain in my heart! Thanks to this program, I was able to step out of my comfort zone!
If I could do it, YOU can too!
