After we found a place to stay, life became much easier and calmer. Let me tell you a bit more about where our employers put us up... Basically, we got really lucky and had a bunch of bosses) First, there was Christi and her husband Jason... their hotel was 'Moose Creek', which was in the city center. They also have a hotel out of town called 'Grizzly' (well, not exactly theirs, but Christi's parents' – Ira and Viki). That's the hotel they brought us to... They gave us a small, dark room right there in the hotel... by the way, the hotels there aren't like everywhere else... the rooms are right on the street, like little houses, not inside a building. It was livable, of course, but honestly, it was tough since we didn't have a kitchen or a fridge, and for those 2 weeks living in that dungeon, we had to eat all sorts of junk that wouldn't spoil quickly. Anyway, I won't go on about how bad it was... I'd rather start talking about our work directly... Our first workday was July 5th. We got up around 7, since we had to be at work by 9, and it took a whole hour to walk there. The distance from the hotel where we lived to the hotel where we worked was a bit over 3 miles... it might not sound like much, but take my word for it—as someone used to taking buses and walking as little as possible—it's a hell of a lot!) So, we arrived at work, Christi gave us our contracts, and then we were finally sure we weren't unemployed. And then Ira (Christi's father) comes up and says that one of us will work at Grizzly and the other at Moose Creek. We were upset because we wanted to work together, but there was nothing we could do... Asel was taken back to Grizzly, and I stayed at the same hotel. The first workday... oh, that's hard to forget) Christi showed me how to clean a room, how to lay everything out, where to get everything, and my head was spinning from all that information because I kept getting lost, forgetting how many towels went where, exactly how to make the bed, and so on... Well, as a beginner, they gave me 6 rooms... I cleaned them from 9 AM to 3 PM)) In principle, the job of a housekeeper isn't hard at all, but it's incredibly tedious... After I finished cleaning all the rooms, Christi said thank you, to which I didn't even know how to respond, since I wasn't used to being thanked for work) She offered to drive me to Grizzly, but since I'm so proud and don't like to burden people, I replied that I'd walk myself... she was shocked again: 'It's hot outside and it's 3 whole miles... are you sure?' I replied that I didn't want to take her away from her work and would manage to walk somehow... what a desperate fool! Barely dragging myself to my hotel, I fell into bed, and we started sharing our impressions of the first workday with Aseka. By the way, to my great happiness, for almost all 2 weeks that we lived at the Grizzly hotel, we both worked there together with Aseka... and only about 4 times did I have to drag myself to Moose Creek. Cleaning at Grizzly was much cooler than at Moose Creek, since the hotel was so-so and there was less pressure. Plus, Viki (Christi's mom) treated us so well that I grew to love this wonderful woman like a mother... and even now, remembering her, I can barely hold back tears... I just don't know how to put into words how kind and friendly the people there are...
