Don't believe in miracles, but always make wishes.
Often, when reading other blogs, I see lines like "How do I tell my parents?" and the most surprising thing is that most people are afraid to confess their desires to them or share their dreams. How come, guys? These are your beloved mom and dad! You are their "flesh and blood"! You've known them for 20 years (or however long). You know exactly when to approach them to ask for money for new clothes, you know when it's better to stay silent and just nod, you know when to be a sweetheart and wash the dishes, and finally, you know when to just have a heart-to-heart talk with them!
Choose the right moment and go for it! They won't hit you over the head with a frying pan, they won't chain you to a radiator, and they certainly won't make aspic out of your leg. Yes, they might refuse to give you money, or they might offer an alternative, or give you money on the condition that you pay it back. There are so many options... Don't be afraid, all parents are the best =)
As for me, it went something like this:
- Mom! How about I go to America for the whole summer?
- Sure.
- I'm not joking, I'm serious.
- Well, neither am I.
Something like that. I was shocked myself that I didn't even have to give the prepared speech about how cool it is there, why I want to go, and what it will give me.
Later, I overheard a conversation between my mom and her friend: "Aren't you afraid to let her go to an unfamiliar country for a long time without you?" "Her?? Of course I'm not afraid, she's a go-getter and very independent, she's going to have an excellent summer!"
Those are the very words I cherished most ;)
