Passport

When you register for the program, you must provide a copy of your passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the program ends. This is important because your passport must remain valid not only while you are working and traveling in the U.S., but also for the time afterward to meet visa requirements. However, if at the time of registration you do not yet have a passport or it is in the process of being issued, do not worry. You will have plenty of time to obtain a passport and provide a copy later. The program sponsor will accept your form without a passport and begin the paperwork and employer matching/verification process. But it is important to remember that the DS-2019 form required for the visa will not be issued by the sponsor until they receive a copy of your passport. Once you receive your passport, be sure to send a copy of it to the program coordinator as soon as possible so that the sponsor can finalize and issue a DS-2019 form. Important: After receiving your passport, be sure to check that the last name and first name on the application form match the data in your passport. If there are discrepancies, inform your program coordinator before sending a copy of your passport. Otherwise, the DS-2019 form will be issued with incorrect data and you will have to pay a fine for reissuing it.
