Popular Jobs Among Participants

Last season, Work and Travel USA participants chose a variety of jobs, each offering unique opportunities to work and immerse themselves in American culture. Here are a few of the most popular job categories and positions that were in high demand among students: 1. Working in hotels Hotel jobs always remain one of the most popular destinations. Many students have opted for hotel service positions in popular resorts and major cities. * Front desk clerk - participants with at least an Upper-Intermediate level of English excelled in this role. The job involves interacting with guests, handling inquiries and bookings, making this position ideal for improving speaking skills. * Housekeeping and laundry also remained popular options, especially for those who preferred less conversational roles. Here, an English level of Pre-Intermediate and above was required. 2. Restaurants and cafes Catering jobs are also in high demand, as it's a great opportunity to work in a team, as well as gain skills in communicating with customers and coworkers. * Waiter/Waitress was one of the most sought-after positions among participants with an English level of Upper-Intermediate and above. This job allowed students to practice the language in an active environment, interacting with restaurant patrons. * Fast food server (fast food worker) is a popular option for students with an Intermediate English level. This position offered stable working hours and a flexible schedule. * Cook and dishwasher - cooks with Intermediate English could also find work in restaurants and cafes, while dishwashers had minimal language requirements (Pre-Intermediate), making this position accessible to most participants. 3. Amusement parks Working at amusement parks is a fun and active way to spend the summer. Participants who chose this field were able to work in direct contact with tourists. * Amusement park attendant - this job is popular among students with an English level of Pre-Intermediate and above. Participants helped tourists with amusement rides, which gave them an opportunity to actively practice the language. * Ticket seller - the language level required here was Intermediate and above, as you had to explain the rules of the park to visitors and sell tickets. 4. Stores and retail trade Working in stores was also among the most popular destinations among students, especially in resort areas with large numbers of tourists. * Cashier is one of the most sought-after jobs in stores and gift stores. This job requires an Intermediate or higher level of English, as you need to be able to communicate with customers and process payments. 5. Maintenance (technical staff) This job involves performing a variety of repair and maintenance tasks such as fixing equipment, minor repairs, or grounds maintenance. * Maintenance - the level of English here ranged from Pre-Intermediate to Intermediate. The participants were involved in maintaining the infrastructure of hotels, parks and other tourist facilities, which required not only technical skills but also the ability to communicate with colleagues and managers. Conclusion: Each season, the jobs chosen by participants help them develop different skills, from communication to technical skills.
