Step 3 - Find an Employer for the Summer
Once your application form has been sent to the sponsor and you have signed it, the employer selection phase begins. If you have chosen the Full Service option, the job search is handled by the program sponsor (InterExchange). Matching is done through your personal account on the sponsor's website and involves two steps. First stage (active search): Self-submission of the questionnaire to the employer 1. Log in to your personal account: Go to the sponsor's website and log in to your personal account. 2. Employer Listings: Go to the "Job Listings" section. 3. Use filters: Use filters to search for employers by region, job type, salary and other criteria. This will help you choose the most suitable employers. 4. Sending your profile: Choose one employer and send them your profile. Your profile will only be available to that employer for three days, during which time it cannot be seen by other employers. 5. Result: After three days, the employer will either offer you a job or reject the application form. If rejected, simply choose another employer and send the application form back for consideration. 6. Move on to step two: If several employers reject your application, move on to step two. Second stage (passive search): Waiting for the employer to review the application form 1. Waiting: Wait for one of the employers to take your application for consideration. 2. Status Tracking: Keep track of the status of your application in your personal profile. You will see an entry with the employer's name and the date by which they will review your application. 3. Receiving a Job Offer: If you receive a Job Offer, a notification will be sent to your e-mail. In your personal account you will be able to see the details: salary, position, number of hours, etc. 4. Accept or decline: If you are satisfied with the invitation, sign the Job Offer. If not, you can cancel it and continue your search. We recommend combining both methods described above. Even if you mainly rely on passive search, use active search from time to time. We also recommend selecting a reasonably broad range of preferences for U.S. regions and types of work. It is important to understand that a specific city, state, employer, or position under the Full Service option is not guaranteed. Available options depend on vacancies in the current season and employers' decisions. Virtual job fair From December through February, the sponsor hosts a virtual job fair. This is an opportunity to interview with employers who are looking for employees. If you are interested in participating, contact an IEC representative for details. Self-Arranged program option: If you choose Self-Arranged, you must find an employer on your own and get a Job Offer from them. Once you receive it, send it to your IEC coordinator for verification with the program sponsor. 1. Verification Monitoring: You will be able to monitor the progress of your Job Offer verification in your personal account on the sponsor's website. 2. Validation Stages: * Initial Check: The sponsor will check that your employer has actually issued a Job Offer and that all the details match the offer. * Documentary Verification: The sponsor also verifies the documents provided by the employer. * Interview: The sponsor may conduct a short interview with the employer. * Confirmation: If everything is in order, the Job Offer will be confirmed. 3. Confirmation Notice: You will receive an email notification when your Job Offer is confirmed. You will need to sign it. If the Job Offer is not confirmed, the sponsor may ask you to submit another Job Offer for verification. 4. Processing Time: The entire process can take anywhere from 2-3 business days to 2-3 months. It all depends on how promptly your employer provides all the necessary documents. 5. Employer Support: If your employer is delayed in taking action, don't hesitate to remind them to get things done faster. Important: You must submit the job offer for sponsor review by March 15.
